Swimming pool
July 4th, 2007
A while back, the Myth Busters busted a myth about people getting stuck on airplane toilets. I don’t think I was ever afraid of those, but I remember being wary of swimming pool drains as a child. The fear always seemed unfounded, but I read an article today that proved otherwise: a 6-year old was eviscerated by a pool drain when she sat on it. Ow… It hurts even to think about that. The good news is that she managed to free herself and lived.
Warning, the story is not for the squeamish.

I’m still terrified of drains, for that very reason. I shiver when I even get near them, and there’s no WAY I’d sit on one!
It turns out that there have been fictional stories written about this very thing. Chuck Palahniuk (author of Fight Club) penned a disturbing tale (warning, it’s graphic) that is eerily similar to the news story.
What the heck was with that Palahniuk story? Seriously, I don’t know what to think.
Yeah, that was the most twisted tale I’ve read in a long time.
Multiple people would puke and/or faint when Chuck read that short story out loud at his book signings. I remember reading it myself on the way down to Homecoming last year and feeling like heaving. Good thing I didn’t, because we were in your BMW.
