Day One

February 14th, 2004

Yesterday evening, in preparation for the event, I went for a run. The length wasn’t too long (just a bit over two miles), but it was the first time since my sophomore year of high school that I had run any appreciable distance.

Maybe it’s just the endorphins (or anandamides?) talking, but the run felt rather good. I enjoyed the feelings of energy and euphoria that so often accompanies exercise.

The challenge now is just to stick with it.

That’s always the challenge. I find that now that I have committed money to a gym membership, I am much more committed to exercise. BTW, you wanna go for a run Monday morning? I will be in town…

Financial commitment certainly adds motivation. I used that strategy when I started playing hockey last summer…

Sure, I’d be up for the run.

” ‘During exercise, the body makes its own marijuana-like compounds,’ Piomelli said. Chemically, these compounds do not look like marijuana, but they cause a similar effect as marijuana on the brain, he said. ” — So that’s why everyone excercises…interesting…Good article

It’s all about motivation and knowing that the reward is worth all the pain and strife. My legs burn everynight but I enjoy the pain because I know I am getting closer to finishing that triathlon.
